Miami Swim Week Cruise 2011: Red Carter
Theatrics are always par for the course for a Red Carter fashion show. And this season the designer’s inspiration ranged from pop art to high art to create his dramatic runway presentation.
The South Beach–based designer presented his eponymous and high-end GLAM collections with a cocktail party and runway show at the Bass Museum of Art. To kick off the evening, guests enjoyed fruity drinks and frozen-yogurt appetizers while viewing glamazons perched on pedestals in the designer’s creations. Who else can pull of an ethnic bikini with a full Indian headdress?Following cocktail hour, Carter sent models down the long ramp-like staircase in a series of costumey looks that wowed the audience. Take away the extravagant accessories such as plastic football pads, feather purses and a ball gown cape made from netting, there was some seriously fierce swimwear in the mix. Some of the best looks included a black banded two-piece and high-waisted brief, a colorful paint splatter print monokini and a strapless one-piece with a British flag emblazoned on the front. To top off the swimwear parade, Carter walked the runway wearing a giant cartoon-like rabbit head.—N. Jayne Seward
