Miami Swim Week Cruise 2011: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim Presents Trina Turk
Designer Trina Turk brought her retro Palm Springs-meets-Acapulco swimwear to the Miami runway for the first time and kicked off the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim festivities on July 15 at The Raleigh in South Beach.
With its swimwear in bright, psychedelic prints and saturated hues paired with crisp white and acid-colored cover-ups and apparel, Turk’s Cruise 2011 collection for men and women featured a casually tropical and sometimes preppy-chic vibe. If a modern-day Great Gatsby were having a pool party, he’d probably wear Turk’s knit micro trunks and chartreuse blazer. Standout women’s pieces are a departure from Turk’s print-heavy aesthetic: cover-ups in casual silhouettes (sweatshirts, harem pants) cut from oversize mesh fabric offer a new take on sheer coverage and a tank mini dress with a voluminous, asymmetrical hemline could go from the beach to the street with fashionable ease.—ErinBarajas
