Miami Swim Week Cruise 2011: Marysia Swim at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim
Marysia Reeves transported her audience to Fiji with the presentation of her Cruise 2011 Marysia Swim collection.
The designer, who was inspired by “a dream vacation to Fiji,” sent straw hat clad models down the runway to the beat of Fijian drummers who played throughout the event. “I [wanted to add] a little authentic touch to the show,” said Reeves who hired local Fijian musicians to create the ambiance.
The polished collection presented on July 19, the closing night of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim at The Raleigh hotel showed the maturity of a designer who has learned the beauty of simplicity and a good edit. “I wanted to be really polished,” said Reeves. “The makeup was really soft. Everything was really toned down,” she explained. The soft graceful look she presented for the season reflected the former ballerina’s background. The palette came in soft pink, aqua and neutral earthy shades. Reeves chose luxurious fabrics such as silk, a soft new Japanese fabric that flowed gracefully and Italian and Brazilian swimwear fabrics that feel great on the body. Key silhouettes included underwire bra tops paired with high-waisted briefs, silk chemises with flirty ruffled necklines, over-size vests, simple triangle tops paired with tie-side bottoms and maillots that incorporated strong seaming details. —N.
