Fashion's Night Out Los Angeles Unveils Plans

It’s official. The City of Los Angeles will be unveiling its plans for its official participation in “Fashion’s Night Out” on Sept. 10 and calls upon retailers to register for the event on the Fashion’s Night Out website.

Fashion’s Night Out was created last year under the leadership of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, and in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and N.Y.C. Co., New York City’s tourism site. On this night last year, retail stores kept their doors open late for the public, parties with refreshments and special appearances by celebrities and designers were had, and people got excited about fashion and bought stuff to help boost the local economy through shopping.

During last year’s Fashion’s Night Out in New York, more than 800 stores participated as well as shops around the globe that remained open after hours for the event. Los Angeles answered the rally cry, too, and stores such as Trina Turk, Marc Jacobs, Herve Leger, Max Co, Moods of Norway, Rock Republic, Fred Segal and Neiman Marcus stayed open late.

This year Los Angeles is officially on the bill, and Cynthia Ruiz, president of the city’s Department of Public Works, has organized efforts to build buzz.

Taking advantage of the city's abundant niche neighborhood shopping, Ruiz is planning promotions for six areas around Los Angeles. The Beverly Center has been named the “hub of action” to host the official kickoff declaration of the night. Fashion shows scheduled at the Beverly Center include a “Denim Rocks” fashion show hosted by Macy’s and a menswear fashion show hosted by Bloomingdale’s. Melrose, Robertson, West Third Street, Abbot Kinney and Los Feliz round out the neighborhoods of retailers that are officially registered as part of Los Angeles Fashion’s Night Out. Given the number of high-profile stores on those shopping blocks and success of last year’s guerilla L.A. Fashion’s Night Out, we hope everyone will step up to the plate.

Ruiz will announce more-detailed plans about the city’s efforts to promote the event and names of participating stores in the coming weeks. The city will launch a Fashion’s Night Out Los Angeles website at the end of the month, which will include an updated list of participating retailers and special events.
