All Aboard the Vans to Hellz
Geeking out about limited-edition sneakers is usually a guy’s game, but Lanie Alabanza-Barcena likes to give the middle finger to gender rules. As “HBIC of Hellz,” she’s a pied piper leading women’s streetwear fashion for girls with opinions. Her latest project to hit the stores is two exclusive shoe styles in collaboration with Vans.
The Hadley is a twist on the black leather high top with zipper details and eye hooks that were inspired by Barcena’s affinity for vintage motorcycle boots. And judging from the brand’s “What The Hellz” blog, which chronicles the staff’s outfits, she really really loves her vintage moto boots and leather jacket. The Sophie is not your 1950s saddle shoe with triangular cut-outs, metallic color blocking and buckle straps.
Look out for the shoes in February at top-shelf streetwear retailers: Karmaloop online, Wish in Atlanta, Kicks/Hi in Hawaii, and Undefeated and Conveyor at Fred Segal in Los Angeles.
