RFID-Embedded Textiles
RFID (radio frequency identification) technology is gaining momentum on the shipping side, as companies realize the benefits of quickly tracking large volumes of merchandise. And some retailers have adopted the technology to help track inventory on the sales floor.
Recently, a Miami company introduced a line of RFID-enabled linens for the hotel industry. The company is touting the RFID-enabled linens as a time saver for hotels looking to track laundry service and linen-closet inventory.
Linen Technology Tracking LLC is working with a laundry in Montebello, Calif., to test its Linentracker tags. According to the company, Magic Laundry Services has tested the tags and found that they continued working through repeated washings using tunnel washer/extractor machines. The “read range” of 8 to 10 feet was maintained after washing up to 200 times.
