Nuuml;wa's Factories in China, Taiwan Receive Bluesign Certification
Tustin, Calif.–based Nuuml;wa Textiles, the American subsidiary of Taiwanese textile maker Honmyue Enterprise Co. Ltd., announced it has received Bluesign eco certification for two of its facilities in Asia.
Bluesign Technologies AG, based in St. Gallen, Switzerland, certified the Honmyue facilities in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China, and Chuang-Hua, Taiwan, for environmental responsibility.
Honmyue’s Jiaxing plant was built following Bluesign principles for resource productivity, consumer safety, air emission, water emission, and occupational health and safety, according to the company.
“Our goal is to reduce water, energy and chemical use while producing the highest-quality textiles,” said Nuuml;wa Textiles President Michael Shih in a statement. “At the same time, we must always be aware of the safety of our employees.” Both plants were designed to recycle the water used in the manufacturing process. The Taiwan facility recycles 80 percent of the water used in the weaving process, and the newer Jiaxing facility recycles 100 percent.
Also, the water used in the dye process is put through a 16-stage treatment that can ascertain the pollution level of the water and direct it to one of two independent systems. By separating the water into two systems, the company said, it can reduce the use of chemicals it uses to neutralize the more polluted water. In addition, the plants reduce their energy usage by heavily insulating all pipes, tanks and dyeing machines.—Alison A. Nieder
