For 2010, it’s in with the new and out with the old.
At least that was part of the reason that The Luxe Showroom, stationed for three years on the fifth floor of the California Market Center, found new digs.
Early this year, Millie Troll and David Mindak packed up their showroom belongings and set up shop at the nearby Gerry Building, a Streamline Moderne structure with an airy, artistic feel.
“We are doing a fresh look,” explained Troll, the showroom’s owner. “It’s a smaller building and easier for buyers to maneuver.”
The 1947 structure has an artistic air with concrete floors, high ceilings and an open-space plan. “Oh, the windows,” gushed Mindak, talking about the bank of windows behind his desk. “I love the vibe. I love the space.”
The Luxe Showroom’s deacute;cor fits the clean, breezy feel of the building.
Dark-gray arm chairs, gathered around a small table with a Chinese vase, anchor the clutter-free showroom, whose 10 updated contemporary labels are lined up on the wall. Track lighting sets the mood.
The labels include Anac, which does novelty mesh tops that wholesale for $38 to $44; Ball of Cotton, which offers hand-knit sweaters for $120 to $180; Orchid & Olive, a line of knit tops and dresses with wholesale prices of $25 to $55; and A’Nue Ligne, European-inspired essentials that are made in the United States and wholesale for $26 to $48.
The two showroom denizens have been busy calling buyers and clients to let them know about their new location. “It was a way for us to have a rebirth and move the business forward,” Mindak said.—Deborah Belgum
