Vintage Sale Kicks Off New Year
For you vintage clothing buffs, the new year is starting out right.
The 5-year-old The Way We Wore store in Los Angeles is having its bi-annual sale that starts Jan. 11 and runs to Feb. 7.
The sale is limited to the first floor while the couture items on the second floor are still at full price. Some of the vintage items, which are up to 60 percent off, come from labels such as Ungaro, Chanel, Versace and Mary McFadden. The store's owner, Doris Raymond, arrived in Los Angeles five years ago from San Francisco, bringing her vintage boutique with her. A few years ago, she opened a private, for-profit research library called Inspiration Space. It is next door to her vintage store at 334 S. La Brea Ave.
There probably isn't a week that some top designer, stylist or fashion maven doesn't drop by for inspiration or an addition to their wardrobe. Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Donatella Versace have made it a point to visit when they are in town, said Margaret Schell, a store spokeswoman.
So, if you have any money left over from your Christmas shopping spree, stop by the store, now open seven days a week, on La Brea between Third and Fourth streets or call (323) 937-0878.
