New High (M)art's Anti-Design
New High (M)art's physical store
Idiosyncratic Los Angeles boutique New High (M)art got on shoppers’ radar screens by stocking “small trade” or products from small crafts companies from across the globe.
The 2,400-square-foot shop-based recently unveiled its new website. The design is simple and gallery-like. Just white walls lined with pictures. The New High Mart owner, who goes by the name of T-Rik, may get baroque with parenthesis, but he recommended e-commerce sites tone down their design.
“It just gets in the way of product,” T-Rik said of busy sites with a lot of proverbial bells and whistles. T-Rik might be an exception to a rule. Other e-commerce sites like Kitson claim media rich sites keep shoppers buying on the site.
