Shop at Gilt, Get a Car
Gold one. Gilt has three 2011 Jettas and will be selling them practically for pennies.
Gilt Groupe just kicked the flash-sale concept into overdrive.
The New York–based company has built a name for itself as a purveyor of limited-time sales of fashion, accessories, home décor, lifestyle products, travel deals and services. Starting on Wednesday, Gilt will add cars to that list—or, more accurately, car. Okay, three cars.
The company has partnered with German automaker Volkswagen to sell three 2011 Jettas—list priced at $15,995—for $5,995 each. On Dec. 15, the first day of the sale, the Jetta will be accessible to Gilt members using the Gilt mobile application on the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android devices. On Dec. 16 and Dec. 17, the sale will open up to include Gilt.com as well as the mobile applications.
The $18,000 in proceeds from sale of the Jettas will be donated to Dress for Success. And after the sale, all Gilt members who add the Jetta to their “wait list” will receive a special incentive from the car maker which can be redeemed at participating Volkswagen dealerships.
