English Laundry's Christopher Wicks, left, gigs with Mick Rossi
English Laundry founder Christopher Wicks put together a dream team group of rock ’n’rollers to produce his band The Glorious.
On album Stories From A Fractured Youth, Wicks provided vocals and lyrics about his life growing up in Manchester, U.K. Guitarist Mick Rossi provided most of the Kinks sounding songcraft. Also making appearances were Wicks’ buddies, a cast of characters which included The Cult’s Billy Duffy, Sex Pistol Steve Jones and Scott Weiland of Grammy winning band Stone Temple Pilots. Weiland happens to be the coverboy and the design DNA of English Laundry’s Scott Weiland Collection.
Wicks and Rossi held an informal gig at English Laundry boutique in Beverly Hills Dec. 8. They performed the tune Another Yesterday, which commemorated the murder of John Lennon.Wicks said The Glorious’ album would be distributed sometime in 2011. And why did he produce this album while helming the burgeoning English Laundry label? “I always sang and wrote lyrics,” Wicks said. “I was going to do an album before I was 40,” he later quipped. Hmm.
