Swim and the Single Girl
Founded as a dress resource, Los Angeles–based Single has expanded over the years to include contemporary separates that take the Single girl from work to evening. Now, designer Galina Sobolev has added a new category to the collection: swimwear.
The launch collection includes about 20 styles, primarily two-piece suits, although Sobolev said there are a “few one-piece ’special’ suits.”
Known for her original prints and jewelry-like details, Sobolev included plenty of both in her swim line, which features matte nylon and Brazilian prints.
“These are things that really shout ’Single’ signature,” she said.
The fabrications are matte nylons and Swim/Prints from Brazil. The “Jewels of the Sea” group features saturated colors and large jeweled trim.
“Leopard Mix” and “Animal Days” feature colorful animal prints that work back to embellished brights. The “Crystalised” group features crystal embellishments.
Styles include tie-side and ring bottoms, twist halters, and triangle tops.
“Most of the suits work back to our print groups,” Sobolev said. For example, many retailers are ordering Single’s “Coral Reef Tunic” in the core collection to work as a coverup for the new “Coral” swimsuit.
“Even stores that do not normally carry swim are so smitten that they are testing them,” Sobolev said. “Many of the swim suits are so beautiful, stores are ordering them as window pieces.”
Wholesale prices range from $23 to $74 for tops, $23 to $36 for bottoms and $74 to $76 for one-pieces.
Single Swim will be on display with Single’s Resort collection at Project in Las Vegas.
