Barbara Fields: Military Looks Marching Forward for Fall '10
Military styles will be among the most dominant looks for Fall 2010. Skirts are coming back in a big way, and don’t count out plaids.
These trend pronouncements were among the forecasts for juniors at a series of private seminars produced by the Barbara Fields Buying Office and were scheduled to coincide with the Fall 2010 Majors Market. More than 400 executives and buyers from retailers such as CitiTrends, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Burlington Coat Factory and Sears took in the seminars, which ran April 11–14, to get a first look at trends for this Fall.
“The rent payer of the season is denim,” said Barbara Fields, the founder of her self-named buying office. “And it’s all about the jegging.” The jegging, or jeans legging, is coming out in different styles, too. One is the tregging, otherwise the French terry jegging. Also look out for jeggings with acid-wash patterns and other prints.
Boot-cut jeans will continue to be popular, and skinny jeans will be a favorite. Lace will be the preferred fabric for a number of different garments such as biker jackets, shirts, dresses and sweaters. Juniors will favor T-shirts featuring one pocket. Floral prints and stripes are forecast to be popular. Sweaters with a crochet back will find a lot of favor. “Crochet back on anything is selling,” Fields said.—Andrew Asch
