Handpicked Vintage By Apartment 3 at Lulus.com
Kristin Knauff’s quirky, fun vintage closet has undergone exponential expansion beyond the Apartment 3 store walls in Los Feliz. Since March, Knauff has been lending her buyer eye for what pretty young things crave to the fast-fashion online retail store Lulus.com, where top-selling brands are BB Dakota and Jeffrey Campbell.
Lulu*s recently added a vintage section that stocks about 100 pieces each month, curated by Knauff. Clever names paint a scenic photo for each outfit; the above sheer dress is called “Root Beer Float mini dress” and this stripe shirt worn as a dress is called “Weekend at Bernie’s.”
Lulu*s began in 1996 as a bricks and mortar retail shop in Chico, Calif., that sold trendy new and vintage clothes with affordable prices. The mother/daughter team of Colleen Winter and Debra Cannon launched the Internet arm in 2005. Given the success of the e-tail store, (a “good seller” item is one that has 400 or more units sold) they folded the bricks and mortar store to go online only this summer. Knauff plans to continue the online-only strategy with her own Apartment 3 shop, which will close its bricks and mortar location as of October 1 to sell online and through pop-up shop events.
