Lingerie From Sunrise to Sunset at CurveNV and Mode City
The runway shows featured at the recent installations of lingerie trade shows CurveNV in Las Vegas and Mode City in Paris served up a fresh bouquet of lingerie trends that offered women looks to suit their moods from sunrise to sunset.
CurveNV’s “So Curve” fashion show debuted on the opening night of the trade show, which ran Aug. 31–Sept. 2 at The Venetian hotel ballrooms in Las Vegas. Approximately 450 retailers out of the 2,552 buyers that walked the trade show floor to view the Spring 2010 collections in lingerie, swimwear, daywear and men’s underwear attended the packed-capacity event.
The show was organized by moods and personalities such as So Precious, Exotic, Posh, Rock, Chic, Seductive, French, Groovy, Funny, Fun, Sweet, Smart Girly, Pinup and Sexy. Apropos to Las Vegas’ reputation for over-the-top theatricality, CurveNV’s runway show stepped up the drama with feather boas, pom-poms and parasol accessories.
Across the pond in Paris, lingerie and swimwear brands bowed their Spring 2010 offerings at the Mode City show at the Paris Expo to an international crowd. Sixty-seven percent of the buyers who browsed the show’s offerings during the Sept. 5–7 run were from outside of France.
Titled “24 Hours of Happiness,” Mode City’s runway event highlighted five lingerie scenes that took the wearer from “Wake Up” in white and powdery shades all the way to “Clubbing” in sexy black lingerie with rich, textured details and finishes. For the in-between hours, playful and mischievous liberty florals and ruffles were the topic of “Market Day.” Combinations of masculine stripes and plaids were cut in feminine shapes and a retro ’70s palette to make up “House Work.” In a nod to lace and tradition, “Tea Time” had a touch of vintage design in current, soft colors.—Rhea Cortado
