Water Main Break in Studio City Floods Local Residences and Businesses
Faire Frou Frou lingerie on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City after most of the water has drained out of the store.
A 62-inch water main burst at the intersection near Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Dickens Street in Studio City at 10:40 on Saturday night, flooding the surrounding streets in water.
Alison Rubke, co-owner of the high-end lingerie shop Faire Frou Frou, located on the neighboring Ventura Boulevard, got the call from a friend at 1 a.m. on Sunday morning that her store was flooded. That was followed by a call at 5 a.m. by the fire department about the situation.
Rubke has yet to sort through and catalogue the water damage to the floor, fixtures, furniture and merchandise. Her store was flooded in six inches of water, but other shops and residences in the area were flooded in water up to three to four feet high.
“We had baskets on the ground with extra inventory, or long nightgowns that were close to the floor; those were ruined,” Rubke said.
Faire Frou Frou will be closed during the next few weeks as cleanup crews empty out the store to repair the water damage to the furniture, floors and drywalls. Other clothing shops in the surrounding area that were affected include Stacey Todd, Veronica M., Little Stinker children’s clothes and Canyon Beachwear.
