Retail Openings
Despite the challenging economy, many retail entrepreneurs are taking advantage of the available real estate and lower rents to open new stores.
California Apparel News has compiled a list of recent retail openings in California.
Avedon, Beverly Hills, Calif. The veteran menswear store expands, selling women’s fashions when it opens its Beverly Hills store in November. It will sell men’s suiting such as Belvest, women’s lines such as Rozae Nichols and denim lines such as Agave.
Church, West Hollywood, Calif. High fashion with an avant-garde twist is the flavor of this boutique, which is built in a former lighting studio. It opened to the public in September.
Claudio Milano, Sunset Plaza, West Hollywood, Calif.A new Los Angeles boutique for the Miami-based Claudio Milano women’s label
Code C, Sunset Plaza, West Hollywood, Calif. A gallery and store that offers designs by Louis Verdad and sells special-occasion and elegant casual fashions
Diavolina, Los Angeles. The popular Los Angeles footwear and fashion boutique moved from Robertson Boulevard to West Third Street.
Madison, Los Angeles. The popular Los Angeles boutique chain moved its Robertson location down the street to West Third Street.
No. A, Los Angeles. Focuses on overseas brands Uniforms for the Dedicated, Cassette Society and Los Angeles brands such as Rojas.
P Store, West Hollywood, Calif. Celebrated a grand opening Oct. 22. This gallery and boutique sells lines such as Apolis Activism and Rag & Bone.
Perrin Paris 1893, Beverly Hills, Calif. The French luxury leather-goods company opened a boutique on Oct. 26.
Wasteland, Burbank, Calif. The boutique chain opened its fourth location, in August, in downtown Burbank.
What She Buys, San Marino, Calif.E-commerce store What She Buys needed a bigger space for its physical store. In September it moved the store from San Gabriel, Calif., to San Marino.
Openings at Area Retail Centers
Beverly Center, Los Angeles: This luxury center’s 2009 debuts included a new store concept for Nine West and new locations for True Religion, Kira Plastinina, Michael Kors, Henri Bendel and White House | Black Market. A Fendi boutique will debut in 2010.
Citadel Outlets, Los Angeles: The Dockers label opened a brand store March 2009. Skechers and Lucky Brand opened stores in May.
Fashion Island, Newport Beach, Calif.: True Religion, Michael Stars, Ever, Y-3 and Trina Turk opened locations in 2009. 7 For All Mankind will open in November.
Glendale Galleria, Glendale, Calif.: New York–based Pandora opened its first West Coast store. It focuses on fashion and fine jewelry. Australian retailers Diva and Cotton On also debuted.
Irvine Spectrum Center, Irvine, Calif.: Michael Brandon, a contemporary menswear store, opened in September. It is this label’s first Orange County store. Forever 21 is expanding from 9,000 square feet to 16,500 square feet. It is scheduled to debut during the holidays.
Malibu Country Mart, Malibu, Calif.: Vince and Morgane Le Fay were some of the stores that opened.
Malibu Lumber Yard, Malibu, Calif.: A 32,000-square-foot luxury retail center debuted in May. Its tenants include Tory Burch, Kitson Men, Maxfield and James Perse.
Montclair Plaza, Montclair, Calif.: Surf and skate retailer Tilly’s opened in July. G By Guess opened in April. Wet Seal opened in August.
Northridge Fashion Center, Northridge, Calif.: H&M and affordable-fashion store Love Culture both opened in October.
Plaza El Segundo, El Segundo, Calif.: Ya Ya’s, a handbag and jewelry store, debuted in August. Petros Vintage, a jean-repair service, opened in June.
South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, Calif.: Henri Bendel, opening Nov. 1; Miu Miu, opening Nov. 20; Prada opening May 1, 2010; Hermes, major remodel, Feb. 23; Faccedil;onnable, major remodel, July 31; Steve Madden, major remodel, March 26.
Stonestown Galleria, San Francisco: YesStyle, an emporium for Asian affordable fashion, opened in September. Romy, a women’s apparel store, opens in November. Gianno men’s apparel debuted in October. Forever 21 opens in November.
