L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2010: Kami Shade' and Supastar Clothing by Rachel Broussard

Dresses were the main event at the Rebecca Molayem Gallery in West Hollywood, Calif. where Kami Shade’ and Supastar Clothes by Rachel Broussard staged a fashion show on Oct. 15 to a crowd of 200 guests.

In stretchy fabrics and proven cuts—V-neck minis and tanks—Kami Shade’s dresses were simple in design to accommodate the many variations of the everyday female figure. “There’s no perfect mannequin that helps design for all body types which is why the fabrics have a four-way stretch where the garment forms to your shape instead of you attempting to cater to the garment,” Shade’ said. The designer added extra punch to the basic silhouettes with sparkly novelty fabrics of glittering hot pink sequins and zebra. A one piece halter swimsuit with a V-neck that dipped below the hips was shown in several bright colors and patterns.

Supastar Clothing by Rachel Broussard’s theme was “new vintage.” The vintage inspiration could be seen in a 1950s cut cardigan sweater that was worn with a modern bubble skirt. Rows of mini ruffles on the skirt of a party dress resembled the tiers of lace ruffles on vintage bloomer underpinnings. Other pieces looked thoroughly today, such as a strapless dress bisected down the center with an exposed zipper and a sparkly tuxedo vest worn with gold cuffed walk shorts.—Rhea Cortado
