popomomo and L.A. Vintage Exchange Unveil New Studio Space
Designer Liz Wasserman's lines: popomomo and Curatorial
The creative minds behind eco-friendly line popomomo and discerningly curated vintage line L.A. Vintage Exchange have joined together to open a shared studio space on L.A.’s east side. Popomomo designer Lizz Wasserman and L.A. Vintage Exchange’s proprietress Courtney Lowe christened their new digs with an open house on Oct. 18.
The studio will be open to consumers, buyers and other industry insiders on Wednesday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Located at 4006 N. Figueroa St. in Highland Park, the space, which acts as design studio, showroom, gallery and vintage boutique, houses Wasserman’s two lines, popomomo and Curatorial, and Lowe’s enviable archive of bygone-era goods.
Wasserman recently showed the popomomo Spring 2010 collection at L.A. Fashion on Broadway with an installation of dresses and skirts with geometric detailing, deliberately placed ruffles and exposed zippers—all made from green materials such as organic cotton and hemp. Wasserman’s lower-priced line, Curatorial, consists of pieces reworked from liability fabric and has a more bohemian, Old World feel with its liberal amounts of print. Both lines retail for under $200, according to Wasserman.
Lowe, formerly merchandise director for online marketplace Shopflick, has gathered a collection of vintage pieces ranging from avant-garde jumpsuits to Americana-revisited plaids and denim. “It’s very trend focused,” said Lowe. L.A. Vintage Exchange is available for styling for designers and stylists, wholesale for boutiques as well as to individual clients.
The ladies are still narrowing down names for the space; it is currently known as Open Studio. Wasserman and Lowe will also host monthly shopping events featuring their respective collections as well as jewelry and menswear from other designers. The first shopping session will kick off on Nov. 8 in the studio’s back lot. For more information, contact info@popomomo.com or lavintageexchange@gmail.com.
