Princess for an Evening
Almost every little girl has dreamed of becoming a princess. For many little girls, the princess fantasies of happily ever-afters still continue even when the reality of growing up and facing adulthood sets in.
A new collection from Disney Consumer Products is allowing the chance for all those little princesses—now grown-up women—to reclaim some of that magic with the Disney Princess collection, showcased at the Zune Gallery in Los Angeles on Oct. 1.
The products making up the collection were inspired by the new book, “Art of the Disney Princess,” which features artistic renditions of the Disney princesses throughout the ages—from Snow White to the newest princess, Tiana, from the upcoming animated feature film “The Princess and the Frog.” The company employed its own talent of internal artists and designers throughout the world to submit their interpretations of the Disney princesses in various forms of media.
According to Soo Koo, who is vice president of creative North America fashion home for Disney Consumer Products, 16 art pieces from the book were selected for the full product collection, which includes stylish tops by Mighty Fine and Simsotex, Isabella Fiore-created handbags, scarves by ABG, jewelry designed by Lucas International, and Retro 51 stationery.
“We wanted to create the line as a lifestyle brand, especially for women who grew up with the Disney princesses and stories,” Koo said.
The Disney Princess collection will be available at specialty retailers and department stores such as Nordstrom for Spring 2010. Los Angeles fashion boutique Kitson will exclusively carry pieces for Fall featuring four princesses—Ariel, Jasmine, Tiana and Snow White.
90210 actress Jessica Lowndes was on hand to view the showcase and said she is a big Disney fanatic and even collects memorabilia. She also said that the couture line is perfect for her because she can work in pieces to wear to special events.
Also in attendance were singer Lisa Loeb, actress Alana Stewart, actor Sterling Beaumom, basketball star Baron Davis, and actress and style icon Julie Newmar.
