Apparel Employment Dips in N.Y.
Apparel and textile employment in New York dropped 6.7 percent, according to a recent survey published by Evanston, Ill.–based Manufacturers’ News Inc. The annual report and industrial directory covers all industries, and this year’s results found that New York, overall, shed 62,786 industrial jobs between July 2007 and July 2009. Top manufacturing employers included printing and publishing, industrial machinery and equipment, and electronics. According to the 2010 New York Manufacturers Register, New York has 17,709 manufacturers, which employ 765,242 workers.
