FGI Panel Talks Twitter, Facebook

The Fashion Group International of Los Angeles hosted the “Harnessing the Power of Social Networks” panel discussion May 21 at the offices of Fox Rothschild. Moderated by Deena Varshavskaya, director of user experience for Dynamik Interactive Inc., an Internet product-development company, the panel included marketing and Web experts. Alan Chen, an intellectual-property attorney with Fox Rothschild; Patricia Handshiegel, founder of 9, an advertising, marketing, media and Internet consulting firm; Rebekah King, founder of social-media marketing firm Rebizworks; Elizabeth Matthews, a public-relations executive with Newell & Matthews West and the FGI’s public-relations chair; and Siana Brennick, director of public relations and marketing for the online marketing company Buzzflikr, rounded out the panel.

The experts discussed the importance of brands and individuals having an online presence on social-networking sites, which include Facebook, Twitter, Myshy;Space and LinkedIn.

Handshiegel summed it up this way: “Profiles [on social networking sites] mean presence—and that’s what you want to have.” —Erin Barajas
