Street Improvements Start in L.A. Fashion District
Construction crews will become a more common sight in the Los Angeles Fashion District as well as along Santee Alley and other sections because of streetscaping and sidewalk work.
Workers will be constructing wheelchair access to several streets, including Los Angeles and Maple streets, to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act. In addition, drainage along Santee Alley will be renovated. The MTA is funding the $1.3 million project, which will take six to eight weeks to complete, said Kent Smith, executive director of the Fashion District’s Business Improvement District.
The ADA ramps follow up storm-drain replacements, which were completed last year. Most of the work will take place in the evenings to lessen disruption of traffic in the Fashion District.
“This will not only help the handicapped but moms with strollers and many of the pedestrians in the area,” Smith said. —Robert McAllister
