Moods of Norway Lands on Robertson
MANY MOODS: From left Moods of Norway founders Peder Borresen, Simen Staalnack and Stefan Dahlkvist. They opened a Moods of Norway store on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles.
It seems like old times on Robertson. Stores are opening rather than closing. In addition to the Rock Republic flagship, Norwegian fashion label Moods of Norway debuted its 2,500-square-foot store on 113 S. Robertson on May 15. It is the first American store for the Oslo–based brand.
Along with selling its three different lines (or moods—there’s the casual mood, street mood and cocktail mood of rock ’n’ roll suiting), the flagship will offer a 1,000-square-foot design studio in the back. Moods of Norway founders Simen Staalnack, Peder Borresen and Stefan Dahlkvist will often be found designing there or simply running their empire, which includes seven stores in Norway, an Iceland store and another in Tokyo. They are considering opening a store in Manhattan in 2010.
Dahlkvist said the Moods chiefs are looking for homes in the Los Angeles area. “We plan to spend as much time here as possible,” Dahlkvist said. California fashion suits these Nordic designers fine. Many of their styles for men and women are as colorful as the Technicolor 1980s surf fashions. Moods’ gamble on color has paid off. Founded in 2003, its revenues in 2008 were $10 million. It forecast a revenue of $14 million in 2009, Dahlkvist said.
