New Resources Guide: Anthony Designs

Designer Antthony Mark Hankins is coming full circle. The designer’s first job out of design school at Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris was working on hems and bias treatments in Yves Saint Laurent’s eveningwear atelier.

After working in the high-end side at YSL and Adrienne Vittadini and mid-market side as a product-development designer for mass-market retailers, Hankins returns to designing dresses on a personal level with his hand-finished label, Antthony.

Through partnerships with special-occasion boutiques such as Marion’s in Brooklyn, N.Y., Hankins continues to refine the style and fit of his dresses for women that he describes as “contemporary misses. A young 40. She’s anywhere from 35 to 45. She’s not old. Her body’s in shape and she wants a cute dress, but she doesn’t want to look like her daughter.”

The top sellers in his line are updates on the classics, including the fishtail “Audrey” and flouncy silk chiffon “Marilyn” dress, inspired by the iconic actresses, and simple sheathes in novelty fabrics such as silk duchesse satin, silk georgette and silk crepe back satin with ruffles, pleating, beading or lace details.—Rhea Cortado
