Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '09: Whitley Kros

On March 15, designers Marissa Ribisi and Sophia Coloma presented their Fall 2009 Whitley Kros collection at the Miauhaus studios in Los Angeles. The installation, which included a video presentation, informally showcased approximately 30 of the brand’s 60-piece Fall collection. Arranged on walls along with postcards, notes and fictional travel plans, the collection was inspired by a bohemian backpacking trip. “This was our opportunity to really showcase the brand and the collection in a way that is fun and different and creative,” Ribisi said. The collection—which featured tartan print moto jackets, plaid drop-crotch pants, silky dresses and easy-breezy trapeze tops—had a decidedly sunny Southern California approach to fall dressing. “We experimented with new fabrics,” Coloma said. “We chose a lot of textured fabrics like woven soft-cotton/ wool.” A heavy oversized wrap sweater warmed things up, while a flouncy miniskirt hints at Spring .—Erin Barajas
