Cal Mart Event Raises Funds for 9/11
A “technology” fashion show highlighted the evening during a Nov. 15 fundraiser at the California Mart benefiting the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Organized by Los Angeles-based CAD/CAM software firm PAD System Technologies, the fundraiser served as a networking mixer for freelance pattern makers who were left unemployed in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in New York, as well as serving as a relief effort to help victims’ families. Food was donated by Los Angeles restaurants New Moon, Angelique Cafeacute; and Trimana. Adrian Teen Models supplied the runway talent for the evening.
Fashions were provided by companies that use PAD’s design and pattern-making software. Among those showing their lines were Bebe, Jacques Moret, Pacific Trail, London Fog, Nanette Keller, Ana Alvarez, William B., Lane Davis, Asics, Self Esteem, Blue Canoe, Lip Service, Rhapsody, REI, ML Kishigo, Syren and Bianca Nero.
“We thought a lot about our customers and friends and family who were in New York when this occurred as well as at home, so we just wanted to proceed in the spirit of giving,” said event chairperson Kristin Gloviak of PAD. —Robert McAllister
