Andrean Trade Passes House
The Andean Trade Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives and heads off to the Senate to be voted on there. The act would eliminate duties and quotas on apparel manufactured of woven material in the Andean region, which includes Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. The American Apparel & Footwear Association applauded the passage of the act as a means of stimulating the economy, while American Textile Manufacturers Institute (ATMI) president Charles A. Hayes issued a statement saying the ATMI is “deeply dismayed” by the House vote.
