Bones and Roses
Designers are known to take up aspirational “It Girl” models and celebrities as muses. But Emy Hovanesyan’s muse for Bones and Roses was a friend whose style inspired her in an unexpected way. Hovanesyan found inspiration in the at-home wardrobe of shoe designer Taryn Rose.
Rose, a practicing orthopedic surgeon, started her eponymous Los Angeles–based shoe company in 1998 to make comfortable, fashionable footwear. After Rose sold her company last year, she spent her free time working from home on volunteer and philanthropic projects.
“When you work from home, it’s always nice that you can wake up and start working,” Rose said. “I would always put a silk robe on. There’s something about me that feels you should always be pulled together.”
Rose’s silk robe collection inspired Hovanesyan to form Bones and Roses, a line of reversible silk robes. Under Rose’s guidance, Hovanesyan came up with three styles in cuts that can transition outside of the home such as a silk jacket. The robes are finished to be reversible, doubling style possibilities. Hovanesyan said she wanted to mimic the idea that “when you buy a shirt and you really like it, you buy two colors.”
Rose does not have a financial stake in Bones and Roses, but she has served as a mentor to Hovanesyan.
Hovanesyan plans to gradually expand the line, adding more robe styles and tops with the same philosophy of reversibility and innerwear that can be worn as outerwear. The silk robes retail for $205.
