Miami Swim Fashion Week Cruise 2010: Poko Pano
Brazilian designer Paola Robba juxtaposed French luxury with the natural flora and fauna of the Amazon for her Cruise 2010 collection. Robba showcased her colorful Poko Pano line and sophisticated eponymous collection on the runway on July 18 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. For the Paolo Robba collection, the designer combined inspiration from the cities of Paris and Sao Paulo. The opulent interiors of French palaces and castles contrasted the modern geometric lines of Sao Paulo’s architectural landmarks. Styles were luxe made in pink toile prints and dramatic black-and-white color blocking with flirty tassel details. For the Poko Pano collection, Robba said she wanted to help bring awareness to the delicate ecosystem of the Amazon rain forest. The colorful look symbolized the country’s diverse people and landscape. Polka dots, stripes, ethnic patterns and a native guarana plant-print characterized the collection. Robba will donate a potion of sales from the “guarana plant” print bikini to the Brazilian chapter of the World Wildlife Fund, WWF-Brasil, to help support the preservation of the Amazon rain forest. —N.
