Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim: Marysia Swim
Ballerina meets punk. It’s an unlikely combination, but Marysia Reeves channeled her days as a ballerina and her memories of punk school kids to create her Cruise 2010 collection. The Poland-born designer who is now based in Charleston, S.C., created a refreshingly rebellious collection that towed the line between hard meets soft and dainty meets bold. Models walked the runway in retro styled bikinis with gold-studded high-waist bottoms and ruffled maillots with flirty tutus. The soft retro palette in champagne, buff, rose and peach contrasted punk-inspired shades in green, red and plaid. Unexpected details such as heavy zippers, studding and hints of neon added a punk edge. Reeves modernized the look with asymmetric styling and breezy cover up and loungewear looks. —N. Jayne Seward
