Sheltini by Shelton Wilder
The Sheltini by Shelton Wilder line of simple tops, slips and skirts is designer Shelton Wilder’s solution to a “modernization of the slip.” As a personal shopper and stylist at the Capitol boutique in Charlotte, N.C., Wilder dressed her clients in designer labels such as Valentino, Balenciaga, Narciso Rodriguez, Peter Som and Stella McCartney for their daily outings, whether “to go to the grocery store or to go to the White House.” The full-service stylist neatly arranged clothing ensembles with jewelry and shoes inside her clients’ closets, all the way down to the camisoles and slips to wear underneath.
“I would have to go out to other boutiques and other stores at the mall to find something to go under [the clothes], and there was never that perfect underpinning,” Wilder said.
“A lot of stores don’t have underpinnings. That’s what I thought was so bizarre. It should all be in one place and make it easy for the clients to purchase them.” In some cases, Wilder said, “it was more difficult to make the sale” if the garment was sheer or low-cut and required a slip that the boutique did not offer.
Wilder, who has lived in Los Angeles for the past two years, created the nylon/spandex Sheltini underpinnings to be as plain as possible, void of lace or trims “that can detract from an outfit.” There are five slip styles in three lengths and the standard neckline permutations: V-neck, scoop neck, strapless and halter. Each style is offered in 18 different colors and is sold with a lace pouch that can be used as a laundry bag. The 15 percent–stretch content gives support, but each piece is “not a body shaper,” said Wilder, who still works as a personal stylist. “It really just skims the body and gives you a really nice contoured look instead of being tight and uncomfortable. It hides panty lines and bra lines, as well. It makes you feel like you’re really styled in your wardrobe and really put together.”
Wholesale price points are $24 for a tank, $36 for a short slip and $38 for a long slip. For more information, call The Tini Slip LLC, parent company of Sheltini, at (704) 616-4274. —Rhea Cortado
