L.A.'s Genlux-Straight Outta Tokyo
Fashion’s flirtation with Japanese pop art must not be exclusive to Marc Jacobs and artist Takashi Murakami. Beverly Hills, Calif.–based beauty and fashion mag Genlux is swooning for Japanese pop art. On Jan. 16, it celebrated the publication of its Winter 2008 Art issue/Winter Fashion with a shindig surrounded by art from Tokyo’s streets.
The specific art was housed in Royal/T, a Culver City, Calif.–based teahouse and gallery that exhibits Japanese artists such as KAWS and Chiho Aoshima. Royal/T was the backdrop for a fashion shoot in the Winter 2008 issue, and a few of Los Angeles’ designers saw it as an excuse to party at the gallery teahouse in a stylish manner. Couture designer Lloyd Klein graced the party, and rightly so, since his fashions were featured in the Winter 2008 issue. Also attending were socialite Baroness Monica von Neumann, stylist and Genlux editor George Blodwell, actor/vocalist Tia Carrere, and stylist Bernard G. Jacobs.
Playing the California-casual contrarian in the cocktail-fashion crowd was Eduardo Lucero. The Los Angeles designer sported a worn-looking cowboy hat at the party.
