Candice Held Mini-Boutique Debuts at Xin

For designer Candice Held, retail has come full circle.

In 2002, she sold her first designs at pioneering Los Angeles fashion boutique Xin. Almost seven years and seemingly a career later, she debuted a mini-Candice Held shop at Xin on Jan. 12 with a lively art party at the Melrose Avenue store. Boutique guests took a gander at the paintings of artist Lana Gomez at the party while sipping drinks by the vodka label Pinky.

The Candice Held mini-shop takes up 20 percent of the floor space at the boutique at 8064 Melrose Ave.

The mini-boutique offers Candice Held Vintage, which the designer constructs out of vintage scarves. It also features the colorful label’s main line, Candice Held (retail priced from $165 to $408).

Held decided to open the Xin mini-shop after closing her self-named boutique in downtown Los Angeles in November. The designer said there was not enough foot traffic at the former store, located near the corner of Main and 9th streets. But in strange coincidence, one of Held’s first sales at the Xin mini shop happened to be a woman from her old downtown stomping grounds.
