MEK: From Denim to Sportswear
Los Angeles–based denim brand MEK Denim has added a sportswear category to its offerings. The collection, which includes men’s and women’s apparel, debuts at the Project Global Trade Show in Las Vegas. Debuting with a tightly edited group of approximately 10 styles each for men and women, MEK’s sportswear includes T-shirts, hoodies and “zip mocks.”
“With the success of our denim, we felt it was the right time to introduce a collection that would complement our core business,” said Kevin Chen, chief executive and creative director of MEK. “MEK Denim has avid followers, and now they will be able to enjoy an entire look.” Price points for the sportswear are in keeping with MEK’s moderate price points.
MEK’s expanding offerings are a reflection of the brand’s strong performance. In 2008, the brand saw an increase in sales of 178 percent over the previous year, a release from the company said. To help facilitate its growth, the brand recently moved to a 10,000-square-foot facility in downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District. —Erin Barajas
