Layoffs at Liz
New York–based apparel giant Liz Claiborne Inc. announced it is eliminating about 725 positions, or 8 percent of its workforce, and suspending merit-pay increases for all employees. The move was one of several the company is making in reaction to “the challenging retail and economic environment,” according to Liz Claiborne Chief Executive Officer William L. McComb. The company previously announced it is closing a distribution center in Pennsylvania.
