Former Apparel Exec Pens Text for Designers
Randi Beer, a former apparel executive and an instructor at Woodbury University’s fashion design department, has written the “Designer’s Guide to Girls’ Junior Apparel,” a textbook for fashion design students. Published by Fairchild Books, the book draws upon Beer’s firsthand experience as the owner/designer of the now-shuttered Randi of California, an apparel manufacturer that produced girls’, juniors, plus-size and maternity apparel distributed to major retailers in the United States. The company, which operated for more than 30 years, produced the Randi, Just Because, Just Ducky, Just Enough and Santa Monica Shirt Co. labels.
The 12-chapter textbook examines the process of launching a girls’ or juniors label, from the inspiration stage through sourcing, pattern-making, cutting, pricing, selling and production. The full-color book is Beer’s first foray into writing and is available now for $86.
