NGC Adds Stony Apparel to Lineup of California Customers
For Miami-based New Generation Computing, California is the No. 1 region in the world, according to Mark Burstein, vice president of Product Lifecycle Management solutions and NGC’s West Coast manager.
The company recently struck a deal with Los Angeles–based girls’ and juniors brand Stony Apparel, which is implementing NGC’s Global Enterprise System software, including its PLM software, e-PLM, as well as NGC’s e-SPS for Global Sourcing & Visibility and RedHorse ERP for EDI (electronic data processing), customer-order processing, inventory management, shipping and financial accounting.
The system also includes NGC’s CPSIA Compliance Module, which helps companies manage the information required by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The CPSC’s Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act requires manufacturers to provide proof of lead testing for all components of a product that will be sold to children age 12 and younger.
“It’s very important for us to manage our test reports and certificates of compliance. With NGC’s software we can keep all the information in a single place, not in multiple areas,” said Richard Swartz, Stony’s chief financial officer, in a statement.
The CPSIA module can also be implemented as a stand-alone product, according to NGC’s Burstein, who said the module also tracks compliance with Prop. 65, the California law that also requires testing for hazardous substances.
Earlier this year, Billabong, the Australian surf brand with U.S. headquarters based in Irvine, Calif., also selected NGC’s e-PLM and e-SPS for all its regions and brands.
Even in a down economy, some companies are looking to add new technology, despite the cost and time needed to implement new software systems.
For many companies, it is a matter of preparing for economic recovery, Burstein said.
“People are looking to position themselves to take advantage of growth and to remain on top of their competition,” he said. —Alison A. Nieder
