Mo Money

The first annual Mo-Down Bro-Down/Movember Gala Party presented by ambsn clothing and Electric Visual benefiting Movember, the Live Strong Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation was a smashing success! The concept of Movember (the month formally known as November) started in Australia and was first introduced to the U.S. in 2006. Its sole purpose is to raise money and awareness about prostate and testicular cancer. Every Movember, men are encouraged to grow a mustache, register at www.movember.com and recruit people to join the team and so on and so on. Movember is not sexist - in fact, Mo Sistas (that's you, ladies) play an important role in this as they can encourage men (and often have a better job persuading men in general) to grow a Mo, register and raise money for the cause. At the end of Movember, massive gala parties pop up worldwide. Mo galas have taken place in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston and Chicago, and this year the guys from ambsn and Electric threw one in the good ole’ town of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The night of Mo-bauchery took place Nov. 25 at MoTav, a local watering hole and restaurant and was at full capacity from 9:30 till the wee hours of the night. Stick-on Mos were sold at the door for those who could not grow one in time, and prizes from ambsn, Electric Visual, Central Coast Surfboards, Moondoggies and www.skatewarehouse.com were awarded for a range of Mo categories. Once the awards were presented by our celebrity guest host, local-access TV channel star Michael Beardsley of Sky River RV, and product was raffled off, DJ Josh Hartley and DJ CIC assaulted the crowd with the latest and, at times, futuristic jams while people drank and danced their asses off all night long!
The soft shuffle of the ever-so-popular centipede was drowned out by the loud stomps of the Mexican hat dance when all of a sudden, Smack! Bam! Boom! Charlie Chaplin goes flying down the stairs every which way first, made the needle skip 20 feet away and, at that point, we knew it was a damn good night. It was a good night of raising awareness, funds and having an all-around good time with close friends. (Although I don’t think ole’ Charlie will remember that one.)
A total of $2,400 was raised that night and donated to Movember.com. San Luis Obispo can not only feel good for helping a good cause but can now look forward to an annual rager Movember party every Thanksgiving eve from ambsn and Electric for years to come.
