Nike Goes (RED)
Beaverton, Ore.–based Nike Inc. formed a partnership with (RED) and enlisted several international soccer stars in its campaign to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. London-based (RED) was founded to raise awareness and funds for the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. By selling products bearing the (PRODUCT)RED trademark, companies agree to contribute a significant percentage of the sales to the Global Fund to help finance AIDS programs in Africa, including programs that offer education and medication. Nike and (RED) made the announcement Nov. 30, the day before World AIDS Day, in a press conference where musician Bono and soccer players Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Andrei Arshavin (Arsenal), Marco Materazzi (Inter Milan), Denilson (Arsenal), Lucas Neill (Everton), Clint Dempsey (Fulham) and Seol Ki-Hyeon (Fulham) were also present.
