Henry Hanger Goes Home With QVC
Henry Hanger was founded by a man who believed the right hanger could sell the clothes. After 80 years outfitting the racks of exclusive retailers and the closets of high-end hotels, the company is bringing its products into consumers' living rooms—thanks to QVC.
On Aug. 25, the New York–based company debuted Home Hanger Collection for the QVC, a specially packaged collection of 50 non-slip, burnished-wood hangers shipped in a special canvas laundry bag.
“Dealing with the consumer is a pretty new experience for us in this type of arena [QVC]," said Nancy Bittan, executive vice president of Henry Hanger Co. and Henry Hanger Home, the company’s newest division. “It was something that had been thought about for years and years and years,” she said. Henry Hanger’s wholesale customers include boutiques and department stores, hotels, interior designers, and celebrities who order custom hangers for their homes.
For years, the company fielded requests from consumers asking to buy from the wholesale line. The company recently launched a new Web site, Henry Hanger Home, to introduce its direct-to-consumer business. Henry Hanger Home offers a sampling of some of the company’s best-selling items from its wholesale line, such as fabric-covered hanger styles.
“We have a great brand that has been known in the retail world,” Bittan said. “We feel our potential in the home market is huge because of our product, known-brand success and history.”
Henry Hanger’s history—and its exclusive clientele—were part of the sell on QVC.
“They went on and on about who our customers are,” Bittan said. “It’s really opened up an opportunity for us to use our brand name.”
