CMT Open House: Location, Location, Location
CMT recently hosted an open house in its 30,000-square-foot design studio in Los Angeles' Boyle Heights neighborhood.
We weren’t sure what to expect when we headed over to the Clothing for Modern Times open house on Aug. 7. And when we arrived at dusk at the massive commercial building in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights neighborhood, we found the elevator out of order. But we gamely trudged up the four flights, laughing at the encouraging signs posted on the walls telling us to keep climbing.
Even in heels, the hike was well worth it.
CMT’s Los Angeles design studio is a sprawling 30,000-square-foot, light-filled space where the Canadian fast-fashion retailer is employing a team of designers and merchandisers to expand the company’s five brand concepts: sexy and trendy Urban Behavior; European-inspired Costa Blanca and its accessories line Costa Blanca X; Delicious lingerie; and Naked Blue, an urban line inspired by the Maori culture. CMT's newest collection is called SMEG, which stands for Sexy Modern Edgy Generation.
Designer Christopher Enuke is consulting for the Naked Blue line and was on hand to show us the latest collection that bears the imprint of his premium-denim expertise.
The vertical company, which operates retail stores in Canada, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and in the United States in Boston, Chicago and Detroit, is preparing to launch a wholesale division and is taking the collection to Las Vegas for the MAGIC Marketplace. In line with fast-fashion pricing, wholesale prices top out at $100.
