New Resources Guide: StudioVM
For many years, designer Varunee specialized in clean, elegant looks seen in her eveningwear line, which bore her name.
After taking a break, she has re-emerged with a new label called StudioVM, which launches for Fall ’09. Again, clean and simple looks are the foundation for her form-fitting dresses, skirts and tops she creates with the contemporary woman in mind.
Most of the StudioVM collection is made in the San Francisco Bay area, where the company is headquartered. Each item is constructed from wrinkle-resistant knit material with the busy woman in mind.
Varunee, who goes by one name, uses solid colors with touches of subtle details to add a dash of what the designer calls “funky elegance.” Those details can be seen in the whip stitches at the shoulder or a dash of color around the neck. Most of the skirts and dresses have a handkerchief hem that gives them a distinctive look.—Deborah Belgum
