Julia Clancey Fall '09
Julia Clancey debuted her Fall collection with a cocktail soiree and party on April 4 in Beverly Hills. Fashion insiders, entertainment executives, celebrities and stylists turned out for the black-tie event, which benefited the Covenant House. The British designer—who relocated to Los Angeles last year for the city’s high-profile red-carpet events—showed her deft hand at eveningwear. The collection was full of flirty ’60s shifts as well as more-elegant gowns inspired by ballroom dancing gowns of the 1940s. The look was perfect for the designer’s wide range of clientele.“Gone are the days where you could pinpoint an age group,” Clancey said. “People are looking after themselves a lot more nowhellip;.It’s amazing the cross section of people that I’m dressing.”Clancey said she designed the beading and embellishments for the collection, which featured silk fabrics, including chiffon and georgette. She utilized similar silhouettes to previous seasons, choosing to expand her design repertoire with embellishments. Standouts included a nude shift with silver rectangular sequins and a long black halter dress with gold embroidery and beading. Clancey accessorized the show with pieces from her own expanding accessories collection of elaborate beaded necklaces and head scarves. —N. Jayne Seward
