James G. Boswell II, 86

James G. Bosshy;well II, who headed his family’s cotton business in California’s San Joachin Valley for nearly 60 years, died April 3 in Indian Wells, Calif. He was 86 years old. Boswell took over J.G. Boswell Co. after the death of his uncle in 1952. Boswell remained as chairman, president and chief executive of the company until 1984, when he stepped down to serve on the company’s board of directors. Based in Corcoran, the company, which specialized in long-staple cotton, grew to encompass about 200,000 acres at one point. Today, the company is spread across about 150,000 acres. Bosshy;well is survived by his son, James W. Boswell, who now heads the business; his wife, Barbara Wallace Boswell; two daughters, Jody Hall and Lorraine Wilcox; and five grandchildren.
