Pooltradeshow Says Farewell to Silver Lake

Los Angeles’ Silver Lake and Echo Park neighborhoods are losing some of their top fashion players. The villain: escalating rents.

High-profile boutiques Show Pony and Han Cholo moved out of Echo Park Boulevard recently because rents since 2007 had tripled, according to local boutique owners. Show Pony closed in March. Han Cholo closed its store on April 1 to concentrate on wholesale said co-owner Guillaume Pajolec.

Now, the latest fashion group to leave Los Angeles’ eastside is Pooltradeshow. It will be moving out of its 10,000-square-foot warehouse space at 2900 Rowena Ave. in Silver Lake this month. On April 24, the five-person Pool team will move 22 miles north to the decidedly less hip Woodland Hills, Calif., offices of parent company Advanstar Communications Inc., organizer of MAGIC Marketplace.

The Pool-istas will take some nightlife with them. Art shows, fashions shows and parties were often produced at the Silver Lake warehouse, which the Pool team called Loop. It had been the home of the Pooltradeshow for four years.

Pool spokesperson Anita Herrera said Pool fans will not have to trek all the way to Woodland Hills for a fix of their favorite trade-show happenings. Pool will occasionally produce events in Los Angeles. The last event at Loop, a gallery show for artist Kelly Toweles, will be held 7–9 p.m. on April 4.
