ASR Parties On
SAN DIEGO—The surf may be up or the waves might be flat. No matter the forecast, you can bet the partying is going to be good at the Action Sports Retailer show, held Sept. 4–6 in San Diego.
The fun started on a soulful note Sept. 4, when veteran rockers Social Distortion played an acoustic set at shindig produced by Converse at the House of Blues.
Quiksilver entertained a standing-room-only crowd at jazz club Anthology for a screening of snowboarding movie “That’s It, That’s All” on Sept. 5
A trio of the world's best surfers was on hand at the Liquid Nation Ball, produced Sept. 5 at the La Jolla home of Reef Founder Fernando Aguerre. Surf stars Rob Machado, Taj Burrow and Kelly Slater helped Aguerre raise more than $300,000 for nonprofit SurfAid International.
One notable exception to the ASR Party train was fashion label RVCA. The popular Costa Mesa fashion company held a debut party for its highly anticipated Erin Wasson X RVCA capsule line at New York Fashion Week, just as ASR opened for business. RVCA founder Pat Tenore reportedly flew to ASR a day or so later.
