New Faces at Accessories The Show, Moda Las Vegas
Traffic was sporadic at Accessories The Show and Moda Las Vegas, held Aug. 25shy;–27 at The Venetian in Las Vegas, but most exhibitors said they were pleased with the retailers who shopped the shows.
“They’re the right customers—maybe not volumes of them, but they’re the right ones,” said Pat Stimac, chief executive officer of Los Angeles–based updated contemporary line Staples, which was showing in the Moda Las Vegas side of the trade show. “I like this show; I like the presentation of the lines,” said Stimac, who said she’d seen several buyers from the East Coast and Southeastern United States.
New exhibitor Laundry by Shelli Segal had a key spot on Moda’s main aisle, where the company was showing its dress collection. Laundry, which was sold by Liz Claiborne earlier this year to Perry Ellis International, is planning a rollout of a sportswear line soon, according to sales manager Jami Brown.
Among the Accessories The Show lineup, jewelry designer Precila Galang was showing her Tarzana, Calif.–based jewelry collection, Precila G., for the second time in Las Vegas. Galang also shows her line of handcrafted charms and pendants at Accessories The Show’s New York edition.
“All the shows are good for me,” Galang said. “The economy is bad, but still, overall, I’m having a great show. Since I handcraft my stuff, I can only sell to so many stores.”
The designer said her meetings were equally split between returning customers and new accounts, including a few catalog companies. —Alison A. Nieder
