L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Sue Wong
Sue Wong presented her latest collection, titled “Mondo Exotica,” at a cocktail reception Oct. 17, opening day of the Los Angeles Fashion Market at the California Market Center.
“Mondo Exotica takes many forms, including core nostalgic looks,” Wong said. “I’m also inspired by different cultures; I’m sort of a bohemian gypsy at heart.”
The gown and cocktail-dress collection included Wong’s signature emphasis on detail, with beading, embroidery and, on one pale pink dress, feathers. The designer included a smattering of dresses in soft, romantic shades of pink, gray and sage, but color and prints were the main focus of the collection. The designer hand-selected each print in the collection, which included bright tropicals and earthy animal patterns. A group in electric blue featured Grecian draping and beading along the bodice. Swirling organic geometric prints paired saturated brights with gold, and her ombreacute; prints came in popsicle-bright hues. —Alison A. Nieder
